Dieter F. Uchtdorf, a current apostle of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints just came out with this statement on his Instagram account @dieterfuchtdorf yesterday:
"This weekend, I assembled with Saints in Hamilton, New Zealand to joyfully rededicate a landmark that has stood for over six decades. I am delighted that this temple will continue to stand stronger and more marvelous than ever.
While the beauty of this area is known throughout the world, the sublime beauty of this temple and the spirit of these Saints exceeds even the matchless splendor of this country.
In preparing for my visit, I learned a new phrase: 'Kia Ngawari'. In Maori, this term means 'be loving, be gentle, be kind.' We learn each of these lessons within the hallowed halls of the temple. These have a similar feeling as love, share, and invite. We are all children of the same Heavenly parents and God wants us to come closer to Jesus Christ wherever we are in life or in geographic location.
I pray this temple, with its long and distinguished history, will continue as a beacon of hope, a standard of holiness, and the embodiment of the phrase, 'Kia Ngawari.'"

-------------------------------------------------------
Let's take note of this for a moment. A general authority has not only mentioned Heavenly Parents - a much desired blessing, in itself- but has also declared that all human beings, all of the children of our mortal sphere derived from the exact SAME set of Heavenly Parents. We all share the same Heavenly Father and Heavenly Mother. This means the world to me and was a true answer for me, and for many reasons. Here is why.
I - as well as countless women and several men, I am sure - have been praying for this very thing for over a year- for a general authority to declare the equal standing of our Mother, and that there is one Mother that we share. That the "way of the Lord is monogamy" as it is stated in the Gospel Topics Essay on Marriage on the church's website. That the narrative on eternal polygamy will be dispelled. That women will be seen as equal partners, and that our leaders will see the Divinity of women.
It is happening, in this quote. It is in support of the concept of us deriving from the SAME parentage... that monogamy is what is patterned and not eternal polygamy - not in our sphere and parentage.
-------------------------------------------------------
In my mind, there's really no disputing this - something I think many of us innately know: that our Mother is the same; that woman is also God, and that She does not have to share a spouse and be secondary. Nor do we as women have to go through this fate, this myth of eternal polygamy. They work as equal partners, and so will we.
Now, is this enough evidence for people? I would hope that a current apostle's statement on this would be enough for members, but there are many who still hold a firm belief of past narratives. So in response, here is one approach I might take in discussing the pertinence of us having the same Mother.
-------------------------------------------------------

I was taught years ago by a church scholar that the purpose behind temple sealings was ultimately to provide one direct link back to Christ, back to our Heavenly Father. This illuded to the idea of the same, linked connection with our Heavenly Mother. As Christ is our Savior, and as he has a direct link to His Father, so He must to His Divine Mother. So must His Mother, be our Divine Mother. So must we all share the same Divine Mother. So must the Atonement have been provided by a brother, by direct link to us, and to our Parents. (Let's also note that Christ is our brother... not our half brother).
In order to return back to our Heavenly Home, the Atonement had to be completed by one who was truly family to us. One who stemmed from the same divine source. A brother, who shared with us not only our Eternal Father, but our Eternal Mother as well. Hence, the purpose behind reuniting us in an eternal family. We couldn't have it possible without Her, without the one who brought him into life.
The entire point of the Savior's Atonement was to help us return home, to the metaphorical Mother's womb. Back to the space where we first stemmed, to the souls who created us - our Heavenly Parents presence.
-------------------------------------------------------
And so that we could become like THEM - Gods and Goddesses. They are yin and yang, complementing forces that rise together, unitedly working for the benefit of their children.
Every individual carries both feminine and masculine energies or attributes, in varying degrees. We are meant to be brought to find balance in our other half, much as Eve and Adam were for each other, deriving from the same entity. Just as our Parents did. And as such, we are always looking for our other half, two becoming one. We are meant to find our Yin-Yang. So must all people seek for their yin yang and the natural balance of masculine and feminine attributes and energies which we all possess.
-------------------------------------------------------
Mother is equal in standing with the Father. They both provide balance and yet live in equality, as the ultimate God and Goddess, together. And not as my mother and your mother and the neighbor next door to the same man.
Yes, we can all become Heavenly Mothers one day, patterning after our own shared Divine Mother, as we find our yin and yang relationship, a divine coupling.
But not in the sense that we will have to be sharing our spouse with another and live in eternal perpetual polygamy. We will have fidelity and trust and equality and full support and love from them. Rising together and not in a distorted, disconnected manner with multiple partners.
-------------------------------------------------------
As we have one Father, and one Savior, we have ONE MOTHER.
And what a blessing that Knowledge + WISDOM is.
